Located just 12 km / 7.5 miles south of Girona (Gerona) city centre and next to both Riudellots de la Selva and Vilobi d'Onyar, Girona Costa Brava Airport (GRO) is the gateway, not only to the beautiful Costa Brava, but also to the majestic Pyrenees and the Catalonian capital of Barcelona. Since Ryanair made it one of its European destinations, the airport has experienced an upsurge in passenger numbers and now serves more than four million visitors each year.

Girona Costa Brava Airport features regular services to all parts of the UK and Ireland, as well as to major EU cities. The airport is well poised to continue its growth as one of Spain's busiest aviation hubs and is positioned just off the AP-7 tollway, which runs from northern France to south-west Spain. Costa Brava Airport is also situated near to the C-25 and the N-II highways. This network of routes ensures fast access between the airport and Girona (15 minutes), Costa Brava (15 minutes), Barcelona (up to 90 minutes) and into the Pyrenees.

Local buses connect Costa Brava Airport with all main cities, towns and resorts in the area, such as Girona, Blanes, Mataró, Perpignan, Pineda de Mar and Tossa de Mar. Commercial Ryanair shuttles run to the more popular tourist destinations, including Barcelona. Plenty of taxis are on standby outside of arrivals and can be pre-booked, being a convenient way to reach less well-known towns, such as Begur, Palamós and San Feliu de Guixois.

Avis, Europcar and Hertz all offer reliable car hire services and have counters located outside Arrivals. There is ample parking at Girona Costa Brava Airport, with two large surface lots complementing the new two-level parking garage and around 2,000 spaces in total.

Girona Costa Brava Airport (GRO) Information: History and Facilities
Although a number of flying clubs had existed in the Girona area for many years, it was not until the late 1950s that it was deemed necessary to build a local airport. Eventually a suitable site was discovered on the southern side of Girona and in 1965, Costa Brava Airport was born, complete with a terminal building and runway measuring around 2,200 metres / 7,220 feet. At this stage it was officially named the Girona Costa Brava Airport (GRO) and soon began serving passenger flights.

In the late 1960s, the runway was made longer, parking facilities improved and cargo traffic actively encouraged. It was at this stage that, due to continuing high levels of passengers, that Girona Costa Brava Airport commissioned a new passenger terminal and further enhancements. The early 1980s saw passenger levels peak at over 800,000, steadily dropping in the 1990s and then soaring to over three million, thanks to the introduction of budget airlines, such as Ryanair, and a growth in the local tourism industry.

Facilities at Girona Costa Brava Airport include a range of gift shops, with confectionary for sale at Areas, books at Divers, and an array of general merchandise at the outlet of Aldeasa. An ATM, a post box, children's play area, tourist information desk and a large meeting room can also be found onsite, along with the Medas self-service restaurant, Ready coffee shop and the Café-Café, which is located within the check-in lobby and known for its freshly baked cakes.
